The World Transplant Games are a remarkable international multisport event that brings together transplant recipients, living donors, donor families, supporters and friends to celebrate the Gift of Life and show the positive impact of organ donation. The games span seven days, featuring a program of both high-exertion and low-impact sports, with 2,500 participants, families, and supporters from 51 nations.
The World Transplant Games serve as a tribute to organ donors and their families. These games not only highlight the physical achievements of transplant recipients but also raise awareness about the importance of organ donation. By participating, athletes demonstrate the richness of life after transplantation and inspire others to consider becoming donors.
Highlights of the Games this year included inspiring competitions in 17 sports, the emotional Intercultural Celebration in the Frauenkirche, the triathlon at Brettmühlenteich, and outstanding performances in the swimming complex at Freiberger Straße. Patron Elke Büdenbender and WTG ambassador Roland Kaiser, both transplant recipients themselves, brought their personal stories of hope to Dresden, touching everyone present.
