Pulnovo Medical‘s PADN-HF-PH trial results were presented at European Society of Cardiology (ESC) Congress 2026 in Munich, Germany, and published simultaneously in a New England Journal of Medicine article.
The multicenter, randomized trial enrolled 264 patients with pulmonary hypertension associated with left heart disease (pulmonary hypertension associated with left heart disease (PH-LHD), World Health Organisation (WHO) Group 2 — a population for which no specific approved therapies currently exist beyond treating the underlying heart condition.
The trial tested adding Pulmonary Artery Denervation (PADN) — a minimally invasive procedure that targets overactive sympathetic nerve activity contributing to pulmonary vascular remodeling — on top of standard guideline-directed medical therapy.
The findings demonstrate a 51% reduction in the risk of clinical worsening, a 35.5% decrease in recurrent clinical events, and sustained concurrent improvements in functional capacity. The authors frame this as a potentially significant step for a patient population that has lacked targeted treatment options, though as with any single trial, confirmation through further study and real-world use will help establish PADN’s place in pulmonary hypertension associated with left heart disease associated with left heart disease (PH-LHD) management longer term.
