On 19th September, pulmonary hypertension nurses Iain Armstrong (Chairman of the UK pulmonary Hypertension association), and Javier Jimenez will spend one mile experiencing what their patients face every single day. They will swim in the open water of London’s Hyde Park for Swim Serpentine, covering 1,609 metres in the heart of the city. The shock of the cold water will leave them gasping. The physical effort of the swim will keep them that way. For the better part of an hour, they’ll feel as close as they ever have to the patients they care for — short of breath, straining, pushing forward. And then they’ll stop. People living with pulmonary hypertension don’t have that option, and this challenge is about making that reality visible — raising awareness of the constant burden of breathlessness, and building understanding for those who fight for every single breath.
