When breath becomes music: a campaign to pay tribute to persons living with pulmonary arterial hypertension, World Pulmonary Hypertension Day, May 5, 2026

On 5 May, World Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension Day, a beautiful and unusual initiative brought the stories of people living with this rare condition to life in an unexpected way — through music. “Aria di vita” (“Breath of Life”) is a campaign promoted by MSD Italia, with the patronage of the two Italian pulmonary hypertension patient associations AMIP and AIPI, that set out to do something both simple and profound: turn breath into notes. The experiences, emotions and daily realities of people living with pulmonary arterial hypertension were gathered and transformed into an original, exclusive musical composition by Maestro Enrico Melozzi — a composer known for his ability to translate human emotion into sound.

The choice of music as a vehicle for awareness is no coincidence. Music is a universal language that transcends words and reaches places that statistics and medical descriptions rarely do. It invites listeners not just to understand, but to feel — and in doing so, it places the human experience of illness firmly at the centre, where it belongs.
