The Pulmonary Hypertension Association (PHA) was founded in 1991 by three patients and a nurse in Florida, and has grown into an international community of patients, caregivers, healthcare professionals and researchers. Key milestones include hosting the first pulmonary hypertension conference in 1994 and accrediting its 100th pulmonary hypertension care centre in 2025. Today the PHA supports a network of over 200 patient and caregiver support groups, maintains a voluntary patient registry collecting data from thousands of patients across the US, and works globally with affiliated organisations on education, advocacy and disease awareness. As a nonprofit, it relies on donations to fund its programmes, with the ultimate mission of ending isolation, improving care and finding a cure for pulmonary hypertension.
