“Global Voices, One Mission: Amplify the Beat” – our motto for the 2025 edition of World Pulmonary Hypertension Day, May 5

Since its inception in 2012, World Pulmonary Hypertension Day (May 5th) has evolved into a powerful global movement uniting patients, caregivers, healthcare professionals, and advocates across continents. What began as a coordinated effort to raise awareness about this rare and serious condition has grown into an international platform for education, advocacy, and community building.

World Pulmonary Hypertension Day is coordinated by PHA Europe, which provides support to individual associations wishing to take part and ready-to-use materials as well as Facebook frames that they can use in their awareness raising and advocacy activities. The toolkit is available at this link on the World Pulmonary Hypertension Day website.

Why This Day Matters

Pulmonary hypertension remains widely underdiagnosed, with patients often experiencing delays of 2-3 years before receiving an accurate diagnosis. During this critical time, irreversible damage to the heart and lungs can occur, significantly impacting treatment outcomes and quality of life. World Pulmonary Hypertension Day creates vital visibility for this often-invisible condition by providing a platform for patient voices to be heard and fostering global collaboration among pulmonary hypertension organizations worldwide

Introducing our “Patient Empowerment Program” (PEP)

This World Pulmonary Hypertension Day, we are proud to launch our new video educational program called “Patients Empowering Patients” (PEP), designed to harness the power of peer-to-peer support. The name “PEP Talks“, is a playful nod to the acronym of the PEP program, while embodying the encouraging and motivational spirit of traditional pep talks.

The aim is for these short videos to offer concise, actionable insights from those who understand pulmonary hypertension best – fellow patients and caregivers! The program will have two main components—personal and self management skills and digital and organisational competencies. Full transcripts will be posted on this platform, which allows for translation into 40 languages via an embedded plug-in.launch our innovative.

By launching PEP Talks on World Pulmonary Hypertension Day, we are reinforcing the connection between global awareness and local action. While the international day brings essential visibility to pulmonary hypertension, programs like PEP Talks translate that awareness into tangible support that improves lives year-round.
