Former pulmonary arterial hypertension patient shares her transplant journey and stresses the importance of education, Pulmonary Hypertension News, May 16 2024

Anna Jeter is an artist and writer living in Excelsior, Minnesota. She was diagnosed with pulmonary arterial hypertension in 1999 at the age of 4 and received a lifesaving heart-lung transplant in 2018.

In an article published recently in Pulmonary Hypertension News, Anna encourages other pulmonary arterial hypertension patients to conduct thorough research and familiarize themselves with the transplant process to make the journey less daunting. By preparing in ways that are meaningful, the overwhelming nature of the transplant experience can be mitigated. Her particular focus is on the need for education.

During her own transplant process, Anna sought information through pamphlets, patient seminars, and doctor appointments. She also found it very useful to connect with people on social media who had undergone lung or heart-lung transplants, allowing for a better understanding of life post-transplant. Research was conducted on specific aspects, such as diet restrictions, with particular attention paid to foods that would be permissible after the transplant.
