Dr. Joanna Pepke-Zaba, renowned consultant respiratory physician at Royal Papworth Hospital, recently received a prestigious European Respiratory Society (ERS) lifetime achievement award, marking another milestone in her illustrious career. Graduating from Warsaw University School of Medicine and completing a fellowship at Royal Papworth and Addenbrooke’s Hospitals, which resulted in a PhD. Dr. Pepke-Zaba’s journey led her to become the Director of the Pulmonary Vascular Diseases Unit (PVDU) at Royal Papworth Hospital. Throughout her tenure, she has spearheaded numerous advancements in patient care and research, mentoring future physicians and leading successful translational research programs. Notably, her pivotal role in developing the UK’s national CTEPH program underscores her commitment to enhancing patient outcomes.
Dr. Pepke-Zaba’s patient-centric approach and pioneering projects, such as the Pulmonary Hypertension Global Patients Survey, highlight her relentless pursuit of improving healthcare on a global scale. She remains dedicated to addressing ongoing challenges in pulmonary vascular medicine, advocating for further advancements in treatments and collaborative efforts within the medical community.
